About TaxWise

A small Sri Lankan team building tax software for people who'd rather file it themselves.

Founded in Sri Lanka. A handful of engineers and a chartered tax expert, building the tool we wished existed when we tried to file our own returns.

Our mission

Make Sri Lankan tax
understandable, accurate,
and finished in an evening.

Sri Lanka rewrote its income tax code in 2023 and amended it again in 2025. Slabs moved. Reliefs changed. The IRD form ballooned to 47 cages across 9 schedules.

Most people pay an accountant Rs. 25,000–60,000 to get through it, or pay too much because they didn't know about a relief that applied to them. TaxWise exists to close that gap — for the salaried professional, the freelancer, and the small business owner who wants to understand their own return.

Founding story

Built by people who tried to file their own.

Sri Lanka has no shortage of tax advisors. What it doesn't have is a tool an individual can open on a Sunday afternoon, log their income and expenses against, and have the right return come out the other end.

Most platforms abroad start with the return form. TaxWise starts with the year — track income as it comes in, log expenses as they happen, and on filing day the IRD return is already mostly written.

We're a small team of Sri Lankan developers and a chartered tax expert who got tired of doing this in spreadsheets. So we built the thing we wanted to use.

“We didn't set out to build a tax company. We set out to file our own taxes without losing a Saturday.”

— Dasun Edirisinghe, founder & CEO

Principles

Four rules we don't bend.

Show the math, every time.

Every figure on a TaxWise return links back to its source — the cage it lands in, the relief that applied, the schedule line that produced it. No black boxes.

Default to the taxpayer's interest.

When two interpretations of the law are both defensible, we apply the one that produces less tax — and we tell you both. You can override.

Sri Lankan-first, not Sri Lankan-also.

Built for LKR, IRD, Y/A cycles, APIT, WHT and the 2025 Amendments. We don't repackage US or Indian tax software.

Never the cheapest excuse.

We don't cut corners on encryption, audit logs, or response time during filing season. Trust compounds; shortcuts don't.
