A small Sri Lankan team building tax software for people who'd rather file it themselves.
Founded in Sri Lanka. A handful of engineers and a chartered tax expert, building the tool we wished existed when we tried to file our own returns.
Make Sri Lankan tax
understandable, accurate,
and finished in an evening.
Sri Lanka rewrote its income tax code in 2023 and amended it again in 2025. Slabs moved. Reliefs changed. The IRD form ballooned to 47 cages across 9 schedules.
Most people pay an accountant Rs. 25,000–60,000 to get through it, or pay too much because they didn't know about a relief that applied to them. TaxWise exists to close that gap — for the salaried professional, the freelancer, and the small business owner who wants to understand their own return.
Built by people who tried to file their own.
Sri Lanka has no shortage of tax advisors. What it doesn't have is a tool an individual can open on a Sunday afternoon, log their income and expenses against, and have the right return come out the other end.
Most platforms abroad start with the return form. TaxWise starts with the year — track income as it comes in, log expenses as they happen, and on filing day the IRD return is already mostly written.
We're a small team of Sri Lankan developers and a chartered tax expert who got tired of doing this in spreadsheets. So we built the thing we wanted to use.
“We didn't set out to build a tax company. We set out to file our own taxes without losing a Saturday.”
The numbers that made us start.
Pulled from the actual 2025/2026 IRD return and the average cost of getting help with it.
Four rules we don't bend.
Every figure on a TaxWise return links back to its source — the cage it lands in, the relief that applied, the schedule line that produced it. No black boxes.
When two interpretations of the law are both defensible, we apply the one that produces less tax — and we tell you both. You can override.
Built for LKR, IRD, Y/A cycles, APIT, WHT and the 2025 Amendments. We don't repackage US or Indian tax software.
We don't cut corners on encryption, audit logs, or response time during filing season. Trust compounds; shortcuts don't.
Five people. One return form.
A founder, three founding developers, and a chartered tax expert — all based in Sri Lanka.
Started TaxWise because there were plenty of accountants but no tool he could open on a Sunday.
Builds the parts of TaxWise you actually click.
Owns the reconciliation engine that turns a year of receipts into a return.
Keeps the IRD form mapping honest — every cage points back to its source.
Chartered accountant. Reads the gazette so you don't have to. Makes sure the law in the engine matches the law on paper.
A short history.
Started as a spreadsheet for the founders' own returns; turned into a calculator that produced the right answer.
Engineering team formed. Tax expert joined. First end-to-end IIT flow against the Y/A 2025/2026 form.
