TaxWise
The TaxWise AI Assistant

An assistant that reads the Act so you don't have to.

Ask a question in plain English. Get an answer grounded in the Inland Revenue Act, IRD circulars, and your own return — with citations.

Real questions, grounded answers

Every answer cites the law and your own return.

You
I freelanced for a US studio and got paid in USD. Where does this go?
Foreign-source service income, taxable in Sri Lanka under §70 of the Act. We'll convert at the CBSL rate on the date of receipt, log it in Schedule 04, and apply the DTA credit if you paid US withholding.
You
I installed rooftop solar in October. Can I claim relief?
Yes — Rs. 600,000 relief under the IRA 2025 Amendment §52(g), capped at one installation per residence per Y/A. Upload the invoice; we'll cite it in your return.
You
Do I owe APIT on bonus that hits in April 2026?
Y/A 2025/2026 closed March 31. An April bonus falls in Y/A 2026/2027. Your employer should APIT-deduct on the new slab — we'll reconcile when you file next year.
You
I have Rs. 80,000 in bank interest. Is it already taxed?
Banks withhold 5% on interest under WHT §85. You still declare gross interest in Cage 2.3; we apply the WHT credit in Cage 7.4 against your final liability.

Boundaries

What the assistant will and won't do.

It will
  • Explain what a cage on your return means, in plain English.
  • Cite the section of the Act and the specific clause behind each calculation.
  • Compare two valid interpretations and tell you which one the engine applied — and why.
  • Flag when a relief might apply that you haven't claimed.
It won't
  • Recommend tax-avoidance structures, schemes, or anything outside the Act.
  • Answer questions about returns that aren't yours.
  • Provide a binding tax opinion (we cite; we don't sign-off).
  • Speculate. If the law is genuinely silent, the answer is 'we don't know — here's a tax advisor.'
